"We are Not a Typical Veterinary Practice"

The Mooch Memorial Fund
We’d like to share with you a bit about our Benefit Fund. Drs. Sam and Annemarie and the staff wanted to be able to have a resource for folks who simply just don’t have “extra” funds available when something really unpleasant happens to their pet. A sudden, acute illness in a young cat….a family dog who escapes the home and gets hit by a car. People make the decision to have an animal companion with every intention of caring for them…and they do. (And, please know…we’re speaking from personal experience). But, sometimes these things happen and we find ourselves stuck. It’s an emotional, gut-wrenching decision. And the very real and tangible aspect of MONEY comes into play. That’s why we started this fund. We’ve assisted several folks…by contributing a designated dollar amount toward the total cost of a procedure or hospitalization. And, it’s been a wonderful thing for everyone.

Over the years, we’ve tried different fund-raising activities….pictures with Santa, a raffle for an Easter Basket. And, they’ve been moderately successful. We also deposit all of the fees we generate from the Rabies Clinic into this account. And, any rebates Silver Maple gets from food or drug purchases, go into that account. We’ve also had clients over the years who have made generous and very much appreciated contributions.

We will be selling soy candles made by TLC Candles.

We also have good quality fleece jackets for sale anytime.
All of the profit from these items will benefit pets in need of care.

In Memory of "Mooch"

On September 5th, 2008, we lost our dear and beloved friend, Mooch. If ever there was a special cat, it was Mooch! He entered our lives in 1994 after he was found living on the streets of Kutztown and "mooching" off of our clients.
He readily took to his new role as the clinic greeter and welcomed thousands of people, cats and dogs, as well as many rabbits, goats and, on occasion, even sheep. He loved everyone and made them feel at home at Silver Maple. Mooch was a true fighter, battling Diabetes and other ailments for many years; he always remained strong and proud.
He will be dearly missed, but his presence will always be with us. Goodbye to you, old friend.....

Dan and Kirstin's quick thinking saves the lives of a family and their pets

Around 1:00am, Dan and Kirstin noticed the back porch of a house on fire. Kirstin called 911 and her husband, Dan, started yelling for anyone in the house. He awakened a woman and proceeded upstairs to wake up her daughter. Dan and Kirstin started gathering their dogs and loading them into a van.
Thankfully, the fire company arrived thereafter.
Unfortunately, a cat did need to be treated for smoke inhalation by Silver Maple but all expenses were taken care of through the Mooch Memorial Fund..

If you would like to make a memorial donation in honor of one of your pets or in memory of another’s pet, please let us know. They will receive an acknowledgement of this donation, as well as a little something we hope will comfort them.
